Miles Dreyer was raised in Western North Carolina at a time that was full of opportunity in glassblowing. At thirteen, he started working with glass in William Bernstein's studio. He also assisted his friend Robert Hynes on weekends and during summers until the age of sixteen when he left school to pursue all forms of glass work. For several years he worked with various artists in the area and took intensive courses at Penland School of Crafts in hot glass, lampworking, neon, casting, and fusing. |
These diverse experiences developed his fascination with the raw material into an unusually broad vocabulary of skills. He has been the studio assistant for courses at Penland, and taught classes for Snow Farm's High School Program. He also spent four years working for Hot Island Glass on Maui. Miles lives in Western North Carolina where he is working toward a sustainable and more financially accessible future in glassblowing. |

"Glass is a language comprising skills, experience, and ideas. I am emphasizing all three with the goal of finding a niche that I can't yet imagine. When an idea is developing I want the only limitation to be that of the material." |
